In a recent interview, musician and now new children’s author Pierce Freelon had this to say about his just-released picture book, Daddy-Daughter Day, “It’s really important to celebrate family, particularly a Black family…specifically this nurturing relationship between father and daughter. It’s not something that you see a lot of in the media.” Besides Freelon’s book, several other titles on this Father’s Day list showcase fathers and daughters. Whether enjoying a day bike riding, making music or just hanging out, the books truly fill a much-desired need for fun family stories featuring fathers. There are also some somber ones that deal with incarceration, Missing Daddy, and grief, Everett Anderson’s Goodbye, because these issues are very real for many children.
