Summer is here—or almost here. That means school is out and fun is in, sleep overs, staying up late, pool parties, long days at the park or mall, vacations with the family, or just plain, old lazying around. But wait, there’s another summer activity that you shouldn’t forget about, summer reading. Many schools give students summer reading assignments to prepare them for the next grade level. Another important aspect of summer reading is to combat the “summer slide.” In addition to school summer reading assignments, many parents enroll their children in their local library’s summer reading program. If your list isn’t complete, or even if it is (there’s always room for one more book) BCBA has lots of fun and awesome board (parents, you have to read to the babies), picture, chapter, teen and young adult books all written by black authors. Happy reading. Enjoy your summer!
