It’s almost time! The much-anticipated sequel to 2018’s global phenomenon “Black Panther” will release in theaters on November 11th. The late Chadwick Boseman, who played the titular character in the first movie, had this to say about Black representation in the film industry: “To be young, gifted, and Black. We all know what it’s like to be told that there is not a place for you to be featured…We knew we had something special that we wanted to give the world, that we could be full human beings in the roles that we were playing.”
The same can be said about representation in children’s literature, about stories written by Black authors that allow children to see reflections of themselves in real and imaginary worlds. While we eagerly wait for the sequel “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, here are some books from the Black Panther book series for young readers to explore.
