Debut author Laura Obuobi’s new picture book, Black Gold (HarperCollins), will release on October 11th. Illustrated by London Ladd, it is described as “a joyous, poetic, celebration of Black children and a reminder of the Universe’s unconditional love.” The cover is absolutely beautiful! Another debut picture book comes from renowned playwright Shay Youngblood and artist Lo Harris. Mama’s Home (Make Me a World) “is a powerful love letter to chosen families and the village that raises us.” There are several more debut selections on this October list, as well as some fantastic fiction and nonfiction titles from established authors like Carole Boston Weatherford, Jabari Asim, Dinah Johnson, Tonya Bolden, and Stephanie Kuehn. A couple of holiday books make an appearance. Speaking of the holidays, stay tuned for a Halloween and YA horror book list!
