Describe yourself in five words, then expound on one of them.
Fun, caring, funny, youthful, and creative.
Creative: Like my nickname, “Captain Create,” I thrive on creativity and imagination—unique superpowers we all have.
Explain your book’s journey—how long did it take—from idea to publication?
I wrote Cape in the middle of the pandemic in 2020. It took a little over two and a half years to make it to publication.
Belief in oneself is important; besides you, who has been your cheerleader(s) throughout this process?
My friends and family. They have supported my dreams of becoming a professional writer for years.
Understanding your audience is essential. What do you know for sure about the audience you are writing for?
We all have lost someone we cared for. Grief is universal—it transcends race, region, age, and gender.
Tell us about your book.
Cape is about a little boy who wears a red cape to a funeral. The cape comforts him and helps him ward off the memories he fears. However, over the course of the book, he realizes the memories he avoids are actually the very thoughts he should embrace.
YOU did it, congratulations! Your story is going to be read by children or teens, educators, parents, librarians, book bloggers, etc. How do you feel, and are there any other projects in the works—that you can discuss?
I feel very grateful. I am currently working on an unannounced graphic novel for a top-five publisher!
