Danielle Paige’s childhood fascination with The Wizard of Oz landed her on the 2014 New York Times bestselling list. The book that received the honor was her young adult, debut novel Dorothy Must Die, a dystopian reimagining of the original story. In Paige’s version, Dorothy is back in Oz wreaking havoc with her newfound power. The shero Amy Gumm is on a mission to “Remove the Tin Woodman’s heart. Steal the Scarecrow’s brain. Take the Lion’s courage. Then and only then—Dorothy must die!” The School Library Journal describes the tale as “edgy…grim and gory.”
When Paige was a junior at Columbia University, she worked as an intern for the soap opera Guiding Light. After graduation, she joined the scriptwriting team. There she had the opportunity to write for teens, an experience that sparked her love for the young adult audience. She has received a Writers Guild of America Award as well as nominations for Daytime Emmy awards. In September, Paige will release Stealing Snow, a retelling of Han Christian Andersen’s “The Snow Queen.” The End of Oz, the fourth book in the Dorothy series, is slated for release in 2017.
I really believe in challenging myself as a writer, and I absolutely love trekking into new territory.
