Author's Name

Michael and Gilbert Allen

Bio

When Gilbert Allen was 15 years old, his older brother, Michael—himself a full-time college student at the time—made the extraordinary commitment to take legal guardianship of Gilbert. Together they began to dismantle the messages of self-doubt and despair that Gilbert had internalized all his life, and replace them with love and affirmation. While talking plainly and frankly about poverty and racism, "Brotherly Love" gives holistic and practical tools that will help youth navigate their feelings, inspire them to seek out and value mentorship, and empower them to trust their own inner strength. Today, Dr. Michael Allen is an award-winning school principal in Evanston, Illinois. He earned his doctorate from Loyola University in Educational Leadership and Emotional Intelligence. Mr. Gilbert Allen is a social worker and certified life coach in Chicago, Illinois. He supervises teams of clinicians that serve children and families undergoing substance abuse issues and rehabilitation. He is pursuing his doctorate in community care and counseling.
