“What’s Your Story?” is a guest post feature on BCBA’s blog. Indie/Self-Published authors are invited to write about their books, writing journey, creative process, inspiration, rewards and challenges of publishing, etc. They can go in whatever direction they choose. We are excited and grateful for their willingness to share, and we hope you enjoy our guests’ stories. Go here for more WYS? posts.
From as far back as I can remember, I’ve always loved to read and write. Quite honestly, I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t doing one of those two things in some capacity. I’ve never been particularly keen on sharing my work; however, as long as it was out of my head and on paper, I was satisfied. Not anymore! I’ve been bitten by the book bug, and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
What started out as a simple set of affirmations shared between my daughter and me, has truly blossomed into something so much bigger than the two of us.
As an avid reader, I find joy in sharing my love for reading with my daughter. It is particularly important to me that I consistently expose her to positive images that reflect who she is. Unfortunately, the books that I yearned to add to her bookshelf were few and far between. Saddened by the lack of diversity in children’s literature not only upset me but also motivated me to take action. My debut children’s book, Little Miss is Destined for Greatness is my way of becoming a part of the solution.
Becoming an author has always been on my list of things to accomplish; however, I can’t say a children’s book was what I initially envisioned. After seeing all of the smiling faces as young readers lean into the words on each page, I am a firm believer that this book is indeed divine order!
As the first title in the Little Miss Children’s Book Collection, Little Miss is Destined for Greatness serves as a mirror for little brown boys and girls to see their brilliance in every page!
As we all know, early on, children begin looking to us to help them carve out a place in this world. Affirming that they have the right to dream big will encourage them to spread their wings and soar! Through frolicsome, endearing rhyme, and captivating illustrations, Little Miss is Destined for Greatness sets out to inspire, empower, and motivate young readers as they explore what they want to offer to the world one rhyme at a time.
My journey of becoming an Independent children’s author is a story that is still being written and I am honored to be along for the ride!
