On July 9th, one day before her birthday, the story of Mavis Staples, Bridges Instead of Walls: The Story of Mavis Staples, will be released. She collaborated with renowned children’s book author Carole Boston Weatherford and artist Steffi Walthall to chronicle her life. The description states, “Mavis has been more than a thrilling singer; she has also stood alongside Martin Luther King, Jr., at numerous Civil Rights protests where her voice was a rallying cry to the country.” Make sure you get that one and any of the books on July’s new releases list.
