“I had this crazy idea that what if we planted a garden on the White House lawn to start a conversation about where our food comes from and how it impacts our children’s health.” Michelle Obama, Remarks by the First Lady at the White House Kitchen Garden Dedication
Spring is only a few days away! People in some regions across the country have begun prepping for planting. Whether it’s a vegetable, herb, or flower garden, it is a wonderful time to talk to children about the changing seasons, nature, and the science of how things grow. Sharee Miller’s new picture book release, Michelle’s Garden, is about the “big, inspiring, and exciting idea” the first lady had for a White House garden and how it was an experience in learning something new and asking for help. This PBS KIDS article discusses several positive effects of gardening for children. So pick up a book or two or three and say hello to spring! Our stories matter.
