This month is a great time to learn about the culture and people of the Caribbean. That’s because June is Caribbean Heritage Month! If you’re not sure what countries and regions are considered a part of the Caribbean, or the purpose of the celebration, this Caribbean American Heritage Month – Overview is a good place to start.
The books featured on the list are by authors of Caribbean heritage. Although some are not American, they are all authors worth knowing. Sadé Smith is one. She is a Canadian author, and her debut picture book, Granny’s Kitchen, releases in July. Many people do not know that the great Shirley Chisholm is of Caribbean heritage. Veronica Chambers tells her story in the picture book bio Shirley Chisholm Is a Verb! The titles listed range from picture to YA. Most are available now, and some are coming soon.
