To many educators, students, and parents, this school year is starting off to be a really tough one. The usual excitement and activities that happen during the back-to-school season have been overshadowed by ongoing concerns about the coronavirus pandemic. Some school districts have already returned and some are scheduled to begin after Labor Day, using various means of in-person, virtual or hybrid learning. However, one thing remains constant, the power of a good book. Excellent teachers and caring parents use books to calm fears, spread joy, and inspire children to “push through.” Hopefully, the books listed will add a little humor, kindness, beauty, and light to storytime. And remember, picture books are not just for elementary students, picture books are for everyone.
